✧ I was standing praying toward the House, and an old man was beside me. I prolonged the prayer, and I placed my hands on my waist. The old man struck my chest with his hand, a blow not sparing me. I said to myself, 'What did he find objectionable in me?' I hastened to finish, and there was a boy sitting behind him. I said, 'Who is this old man?' He said, 'This is Abdullah b. Umar.' I sat until he finished. I said, 'O Abu Abd al-Rahman, what did you find objectionable in me?' He said, 'It was you?' I said, 'Yes.' He said, 'That is the placing of the hand on the waist in prayer; the Messenger of God ﷺ used to forbid it.'
