✧ I said to a man: Recite to me thirty verses from al-Ahqaf. He recited to me differently from what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had recited to me. I said to another: Recite to me thirty verses from al-Ahqaf. He recited to me differently from what the first had recited to me. So I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while Ali was sitting with him. Ali said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Recite as you have been taught.

machine translationʿĀṣim b. Abī al-Najūd narrated it from Zirr b. Ḥubaysh from ʿAbdullāh. There was disagreement about ʿĀṣim: Sulaymān al-Aʿmash, Abū Khālid al-Dālānī, Shaybān al-Naḥwī, Isrāʾīl b. Yūnus, Abū Bakr b. ʿAyyāsh, Sallām Abū al-Mundhir, Ḥammād b. Salamah, Abān b. Yazīd al-ʿAṭṭār, Abū ʿAwānah and ʿAmr b. Abī Qays all agreed in narrating it from ʿĀṣim from Zirr from ʿAbdullāh. Hammām b. Yaḥyā differed from them, narrating it from ʿĀṣim from Abū Wāʾil from ʿAbdullāh. The correct view is that of the one who said "from Zirr".
