✧ We disputed about a surah of the Qur'an. We said: thirty-five verses, thirty-six verses. He said: We went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and found 'Ali conversing privately with him. We said: We have differed about the recitation. The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned red, and 'Ali said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commands you to recite as you have been taught.

machine translationʿĀṣim b. Abī al-Najūd narrated it from Zirr b. Ḥubaysh from ʿAbdullāh. There was disagreement about ʿĀṣim: Sulaymān al-Aʿmash, Abū Khālid al-Dālānī, Shaybān al-Naḥwī, Isrāʾīl b. Yūnus, Abū Bakr b. ʿAyyāsh, Sallām Abū al-Mundhir, Ḥammād b. Salamah, Abān b. Yazīd al-ʿAṭṭār, Abū ʿAwānah and ʿAmr b. Abī Qays all agreed in narrating it from ʿĀṣim from Zirr from ʿAbdullāh. Hammām b. Yaḥyā differed from them, narrating it from ʿĀṣim from Abū Wāʾil from ʿAbdullāh. The correct view is that of the one who said "from Zirr".
