machine translationHe was asked about the hadith of Shaqīq from ʿAbdullāh from the Prophet, and he said: Al-Aʿmash narrates it from Abū Wāʾil, raising it (rafaʿahu). Yaḥyā al-Qaṭṭān, Wakīʿ, Muḥammad b. ʿUbayd, ʿAbdullāh b. Dāwūd al-Kharībī, Ḥumayd al-Ruʾāsī and Mālik b. Suʿayr narrated it from him as raised. Abū Nuʿaym and Abū ʿĀṣim narrated it from al-Thawrī from al-Aʿmash as raised, while others narrate it from al-Thawrī from al-Aʿmash and doubted whether it was raised. Abū Muʿāwiyah al-Ḍarīr and ʿAlī b. Mushir narrated it from al-Aʿmash as a statement of the Companion (mawqūf). It was also said, from ʿAmr b. ʿAlī, from Wakīʿ, Abū Muʿāwiyah and al-Kharībī, from al-Aʿmash, as raised. Jarīr said: from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Wāʾil, from ʿAmr b. Shuraḥbīl, as a mursal report from the Prophet ﷺ. Ḥumayd al-Ruʾāsī combined the two hadiths, saying: from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Wāʾil, from ʿAbdullāh, from the Prophet ﷺ, and from al-Aʿmash, from Shaqīq, from ʿAmr b. Shuraḥbīl, from the Prophet ﷺ. It was also said, from Sulaymān al-Taymī, from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Wāʾil, from ʿAmr b. Shuraḥbīl, from ʿAbdullāh, as raised. The hadith of Abū Wāʾil from ʿAbdullāh is sound (ṣaḥīḥ), and it seems that al-Aʿmash would sometimes raise it and sometimes stop it at the Companion. And God knows best. Likewise Isḥāq al-Azraq narrated it from Sharīk, from ʿĀṣim, from Abū Wāʾil, from ʿAbdullāh, as raised.
