✧ The first man among the Muslims — or in the Muslims — whose hand was cut off was a man from the Ansar. He was brought to the Prophet ﷺ, and it was said, "He stole." He said, "Take your companion and cut off his hand." It was as if the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was covered with ashes. One of those sitting with him said, "It seems this has distressed you, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "And what should prevent it? You should not be helpers of Satan — or of Iblis. It is not appropriate for a ruler to have a legal punishment brought to him except that he carry it out. Allah is Forgiving and loves forgiveness." Then he recited this verse: "And let them pardon and overlook. Do you not like that Allah should forgive you?"
