حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ يَحْيَى الْجَابِرِ، عَنْ أَبِي مَاجِدَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ

سَأَلْنَا النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَنِ السَّيْرِ بِالْجِنَازَةِ فَقَالَ: السَّيْرُ مَا دُونَ الْخَبَبِ، فَإِنْ يَكُنْ خَيْرًا يُعَجَّلْ إِلَيْهِ، وَإِنْ يَكُ سِوَى ذَلِكَ فَبُعْدًا لِأَهْلِ النَّارِ، الْجِنَازَةُ مَتْبُوعَةٌ وَلَيْسَ مِنْهَا مَنْ تَقَدَّمَهَا

Translation

✧ We asked the Prophet ﷺ about walking with a funeral procession. He said: "Walking is less than a trot. If it is good, it is hastened to it; if it is other than that, then away with the people of the Fire. The funeral procession is followed, and it is not followed by one who goes ahead of it."
