حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ
أَنَّ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ قَرَأَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ: ( إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ اللَّيْلِ هِيَ أَشَدُّ وَطْئًا وَأَصْوَبُ قِيلًا ) فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ: إِنَّمَا نَقْرَؤُهَا: وَأَقْوَمُ قِيلا فَقَالَ: إِنَّ أَقْوَمَ وَأَصْوَبَ وَأَهْيَأَ، وَأَشْبَاهَ هَذَا وَاحِدٌ
Translation

✧ Anas b. Malik recited this verse: “Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for speech” (Q 73:6). A man said to him: “We only recite it as: ‘and more upright in speech’ (wa-aqwamu qīlā).” He said: “Aqwam, aṣwab, and ahyā, and the like of this, are one [and the same].”
