  1. And Suʾil Anas

✧ Did the Messenger of God ﷺ raise his hands in supplication? He said: “Yes. One Friday while he was addressing the people, it was said: ‘O Messenger of God, the rain has stopped, the land has become barren, and wealth has perished. Supplicate to God.’ So he raised his hands until I saw the whiteness of his armpits, and he prayed for rain, and I saw no cloud in the sky. We had not finished the prayer before a young man whose house was near was anxious to return to his family. It lasted for a week. On the second Friday, they said: ‘O Messenger of God, houses have collapsed, travelers have been detained, and wealth has perished.’ The Messenger of God ﷺ smiled, then made a gesture with his hand and parted between them, and said: ‘O God, around us and not upon us.’ He made a parting motion in front of him, and it cleared away from Madinah.”
