✧ Humayd al-Tawil from Anas b. Malik

حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبٌ، أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدٌ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ:

مَرَّتْ بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ جِنَازَةٌ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا، حَتَّى تَتَابَعَتِ الْأَلْسُنُ بِالْخَيْرِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: وَجَبَتْ، ثُمَّ مَرَّتْ بِهِ أُخْرَى فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: وَجَبَتْ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: أَنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ

Translation

✧ A funeral procession passed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and they praised it with good, until the tongues followed one another with good. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: It has become due. Then another passed by him and they praised it with evil. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: It has become due. Then he said: You are Allah's witnesses on earth.
