حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَاصِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْعَوَّامِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ:
لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ حُنَيْنٍ انْهَزَمَ النَّاسُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَّا الْعَبَّاسَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ، وَأَبَا سُفْيَانَ بْنَ الْحَارِثِ، وَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ يُنَادَى: يَا أَصْحَابَ سُورَةِ الْبَقَرَةِ، يَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ، ثُمَّ اسْتَحَرَّ النِّدَاءُ فِي بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ، فَلَمَّا سَمِعُوا النِّدَاءَ أَقْبَلُوا، فَوَاللهِ مَا شَبَّهْتُهُمْ إِلَّا إِلَى الْإِبِلِ تَجِيءُ إِلَى أَوْلَادِهَا، فَلَمَّا الْتَقَوُا الْتَحَمَ الْقِتَالُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: الْآنَ حَمِيَ الْوَطِيسُ، وَأَخَذَ كَفًّا مِنْ حَصًى أَبْيَضَ فَرَمَى بِهِ، وَقَالَ: هُزِمُوا وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ، وَكَانَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ؓ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَشَدَّ النَّاسِ قِتَالًا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ

✧ On the day of Hunayn, the people fled from the Messenger of God ﷺ except al-Abbas b. Abd al-Muttalib and Abu Sufyan b. al-Harith. The Messenger of God ﷺ ordered that it be called out: O companions of Surat al-Baqarah, O assembly of the Ansar. Then the call intensified among the Banu al-Harith b. al-Khazraj. When they heard the call, they came forward. By God, I likened them only to camels coming to their young. When they met, the fighting became fierce. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: Now the oven is heated. He took a handful of white pebbles and threw them and said: They are defeated, by the Lord of the Kabah. Ali b. Abi Talib ؓ was that day the fiercest of the people in fighting before him.
