حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ بَكْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ

أَنَّهُ رَأَى شَيْخًا يُهَادَى بَيْنَ ابْنَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: مَا بَالُ هَذَا ؟ فَقَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، نَذَرَ أَنْ يَمْشِيَ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ اللهَ غَنِيٌّ عَنْ تَعْذِيبِ هَذَا نَفْسَهُ، يَعْنِي: ثُمَّ أَمَرَهُ فَرَكِبَ

Translation

✧ He saw an old man being supported between his two sons, and said: “What is the matter with this man?” They said: “O Messenger of Allah, he vowed to walk.” He said: “Allah is in no need of this man’s tormenting himself,” meaning: then he commanded him, so he rode.
