حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ دَخَلَ عَلَى رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ يَعُودُهُ وَقَدْ صَارَ كَالْفَرْخِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: هَلْ سَأَلْتَ اللهَ ؟ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: اللَّهُمَّ مَا كُنْتَ مُعَاقِبِي فِي الْآخِرَةِ فَعَجِّلْهُ لِي فِي الدُّنْيَا، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: لَا طَاقَةَ لَكَ بِعَذَابِ اللهِ، هَلَّا قُلْتَ: اللَّهُمَّ آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon a man from his companions to visit him, and he had become like a chick. He said to him: Have you asked Allah? He said: I said: O Allah, whatever punishment You would give me in the hereafter, hasten it for me in this world. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: You have no strength for Allah's punishment. Why did you not say: O Allah, give us good in this world and good in the hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire?
