حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ، قَالَ:

سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ يَقُولُ لِامْرَأَةٍ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ: أَمَا تَعْرِفِينَ فُلَانَةَ ؟ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مَرَّ عَلَيْهَا وَهِيَ تَبْكِي عَلَى قَبْرٍ، فَقَالَ لَهَا: اتَّقِي اللهَ وَاصْبِرِي، فَقَالَتْ لَهُ: إِلَيْكَ عَنِّي، فَإِنَّكَ لَا تُبَالِي بِمُصِيبَتِي، قَالَ: وَلَمْ تَكُنْ عَرَفَتْهُ، فَقِيلَ لَهَا: إِنَّ هَذَا رَسُولُ اللهِ، فَأَخَذَهَا مِثْلُ الْمَوْتِ، فَجَاءَتْ عَلَى بَابِهِ، فَلَمْ تَجِدْ عَلَيْهِ بَوَّابًا، فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي لَمْ أَعْرِفْكَ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ الصَّبْرَ عِنْدَ أَوَّلِ صَدْمَةٍ

Translation

✧ I heard Anas b. Malik say to a woman among his family: Do you not know so-and-so? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by her while she was weeping at a grave, and he said to her: Fear Allah and be patient. She said to him: Go away from me, for you do not care about my calamity. He said: She had not recognized him. Then it was said to her: This is the Messenger of Allah. Something like death seized her, and she came to his door but did not find a doorkeeper. She said: O Messenger of Allah, I did not recognize you. He said: Patience is only at the first shock.
