✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ once sent a man to one of the pharaohs of the Arabs, saying: Go and call him to me. He said: O Messenger of God, he is more arrogant than that. He said: Go and call him to me. He said: So he went to him and said: The Messenger of God ﷺ calls you. The man said to the messenger of the Messenger of God: What is God? Is He of gold, or of silver, or of copper? He said: He returned to the Messenger of God ﷺ and told him, saying: O Messenger of God, I told you that he is more arrogant than that. He said to me such-and-such. He said: Return to him a second time. He said to him the like of it. He returned to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said: O Messenger of God, I told you that he is more arrogant than that. He said: Return to him and call him. So he returned to him a third time. He said: He repeated that speech to him. While he was talking to him, God sent a cloud over his head. It thundered, and a thunderbolt fell from it and carried away the top of his skull. Then God sent down: And He sends thunderbolts and strikes with them whom He wills—the verse.
