حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَوْسِ بْنِ الْحَدَثَانِ

أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ الْتَمَسَ صَرْفًا بِمِائَةِ دِينَارٍ، قَالَ: فَدَعَانِي طَلْحَةُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ، فَتَرَاضَيْنَا فِي الصَّرْفِ حَتَّى اصْطَرَفَ مِنِّي وَأَخَذَ الذَّهَبَ يُقَلِّبُهَا فِي يَدِهِ، قَالَ: حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ خَازِنِي مِنَ الْغَابَةِ، وَعُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ يَسْمَعُ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: لَا وَاللهِ لَا تُفَارِقْهُ حَتَّى تَأْخُذَ مِنْهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: الذَّهَبُ بِالذَّهَبِ رِبًا إِلَّا هَاءَ وَهَاءَ، وَالتَّمْرُ بِالتَّمْرِ رِبًا إِلَّا هَاءَ وَهَاءَ، وَالشَّعِيرُ بِالشَّعِيرِ رِبًا إِلَّا هَاءَ وَهَاءَ

Translation

✧ He informed him that he sought to exchange one hundred dinars. He said: Talha b. Ubayd Allah called me, and we mutually agreed on the exchange until he exchanged with me and took the gold, turning it over in his hand. He said: until my treasurer comes from al-Ghaba, while Umar b. al-Khattab was listening. Umar said: No, by God, you will not part from him until you take it from him. Then he said: The Messenger of God ﷺ said: Gold for gold is usury unless hand to hand, dates for dates is usury unless hand to hand, barley for barley is usury unless hand to hand.
