حَدَّثَنَا مُطَّلِبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْوَاحِدِ بْنِ أَبِي عَوْنٍ قَالَ
أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كِتَابُ رَجُلٍ فَقَالَ لِعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْأَرْقَمِ «أَجِبْ عَنِّي» فَكَتَبَ جَوَابَهُ ثُمَّ قَرَأَهُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ «أَصَبْتَ وَأَحْسَنْتَ اللهُمَّ وَفِقْهُ» فَلَمَّا وَلِيَ عُمَرُ كَانَ يُشَاوِرُهُ
Translation

✧ A letter of a man came to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said to ʿAbdullah b. al-Arqam, “Respond on my behalf.” So he wrote his reply, then read it to him, and he said, “You have been correct and done well. O Allah, grant him success.” When ʿUmar assumed the caliphate, he used to consult him.
