✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ went to reconcile between the Banu Amr b. Awf of the Ansar. He said: And the prayer became due. Bilal said to Abu Bakr: Shall I give the call and you lead the people in prayer? He said: Yes. So Bilal gave the iqamah, and Abu Bakr stepped forward and led the people in prayer. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ came, and they began clapping with their hands for Abu Bakr. Abu Bakr would hardly turn when he was in prayer. When they clapped, he turned and saw the Messenger of God ﷺ, so he stepped back. The Prophet ﷺ gestured with his hand to him to pray, but he refused. So the Messenger of God ﷺ stepped forward and prayed. When he finished his prayer, he said to Abu Bakr: What prevented you from praying? He said: It was not fitting for the son of Abu Quhafah to lead the Messenger of God ﷺ. Then he turned to the people and said: What is this clapping? Clapping in prayer is only for women. If one of you needs something, let him say subhan Allah.
