حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْجُشَمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الثَّوْرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ الثَّقَفِيُّ، قَالَ: وَحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ الْفَزَارِيِّ. عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ:

كُنْتُ إِذَا حُدِّثْتُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَدِيثًا اسْتَحْلَفْتُ صَاحِبَهُ، فَإِذَا حَلَفَ لِي صَدَّقْتُهُ، فَحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ - وَصَدَقَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ - أَنَّهُ ﷺ قَالَ: لَيْسَ مِنْ عَبْدٍ يُذْنِبُ ذَنْبًا، فَيَتَوَضَّأُ، وَيُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَيَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ، إِلَّا غَفَرَ لَهُ

✧ I used to, when I was told a hadith from the Messenger of God ﷺ, make the one who told it swear an oath; and if he swore to me, I believed him. Abu Bakr narrated to me—and Abu Bakr spoke the truth—that he ﷺ said: There is no servant who commits a sin, then performs ablution, and prays two rakʿahs, and asks God's forgiveness, but that He forgives him.
