14 14 - حَدَّثَنَا بِهِ أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ، قَالَ:

سَمِعْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ - رَجُلًا مِنْ بَنِي أَسَدٍ - يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ - أَوِ ابْنِ أَسْمَاءَ - مِنْ بَنِي فَزَارَةَ. عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: كُنْتُ إِذَا سَمِعْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَدِيثًا نَفَعَنِي اللهُ بِمَا شَاءَ أَنْ يَنْفَعَنِي مِنْهُ، وَحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ - وَصَدَقَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ - أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ، ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ

Translation

✧ I heard Ali b. Rabiʿa—a man from Banu Asad—narrating from Asma (or Ibn Asma) of Banu Fazarah, from Ali, who said: I used to, when I heard a hadith from the Messenger of God ﷺ, benefit by it as much as God willed me to benefit. And Abu Bakr narrated to me—and Abu Bakr spoke the truth—that the Messenger of God ﷺ… then he mentioned something similar.
