حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا غُنْدَرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ الْمُغِيرَةِ الثَّقَفِيَّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ بَنِي فَزَارَةَ، يُقَالُ لَهُ: أَسْمَاءُ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، قَالَ:
كُنْتُ إِذَا سَمِعْتُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ شَيْئًا نَفَعَنِي اللهُ بِمَا شَاءَ أَنْ يَنْفَعَنِي مِنْهُ، فَحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ - وَصَدَقَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ - عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ: مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ، قَالَ شُعْبَةُ: أَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ: مُسْلِمٍ يُذْنِبُ ذَنْبًا، ثُمَّ يَتَوَضَّأُ، ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ يَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ لِذَلِكَ الذَّنْبِ، إِلَّا غَفَرَ لَهُ. قَالَ شُعْبَةُ: وَقَرَأَ إِحْدَى هَاتَيْنِ الْآيَتَيْنِ: مَنْ يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا يُجْزَ بِهِ وَالَّذِينَ إِذَا فَعَلُوا فَاحِشَةً أَوْ ظَلَمُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ

✧ I used to, when I heard anything from the Messenger of God ﷺ, benefit by it as much as God willed me to benefit. Abu Bakr narrated to me—and Abu Bakr spoke the truth—from the Prophet ﷺ that he said: There is no servant—Shuʿba said: I think he said: Muslim—who commits a sin, then performs ablution, then prays two rakʿahs, then asks God's forgiveness for that sin, but that He forgives him. Shuʿba said: And he recited one of these two verses: “Whoever does evil will be recompensed for it” and “Those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves…”
