حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ اللَّيْثِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ قَالَ:
جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ: " أَيُّ النَّاسِ خَيْرٌ ؟ قَالَ: رَجُلٌ جَاهَدَ بِنَفْسِهِ وَمَالِهِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ، وَرَجُلٌ - يَعْنِي فِي شِعْبٍ مِنَ الشِّعَابِ - يَعْبُدُ رَبَّهُ وَيَدَعُ النَّاسَ مِنْ شَرِّهِ

✧ A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: “Which of the people is best?” He said: “A man who strives with his life and wealth in the path of God, and a man — meaning in one of the mountain passes — who worships his Lord and keeps people safe from his evil.”
