حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ حَدَّثَنَا الزُّهْرِيُّ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ وَقَالَ عَفَّانُ مَرَّةً عَطَاءُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ قَالَ
قِيلَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَيُّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَفْضَلُ ؟ قَالَ: مُؤْمِنٌ يُجَاهِدُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ بِنَفْسِهِ وَمَالِهِ، قَالُوا: ثُمَّ مَنْ ؟ قَالَ: مُؤْمِنٌ اعْتَزَلَ فِي شِعْبٍ مِنَ الشِّعَابِ أَوِ الشُّعْبَةِ كَفَى النَّاسَ شَرَّهُ

✧ It was said: O Messenger of God, which of the believers is most virtuous? He said: A believer who strives in the path of God with his self and his wealth. They said: Then who? He said: A believer who withdraws into a mountain pass—or a ravine—sparing people from his evil.
