✧ We had hardly returned when Khaybar was conquered, and we fell upon that herb—garlic and onions—and ate of them ravenously. He said: And the people were hungry. We returned to the mosque, and the Messenger of God ﷺ noticed the smell. He said: “Whoever has eaten anything of this foul herb should not come near us in the mosque.” The people said: “It has been made forbidden, it has been made forbidden.” That reached the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he said: “O people, I have no power to forbid what God has made lawful. But it is a plant whose smell I dislike.”
