Chain of narrators
  1. Abū Saʿīd

✧ A woman came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of God, my husband Safwan b. al-Mu'attal beats me when I pray, makes me break my fast when I fast, and does not pray the dawn prayer until the sun rises.' Safwan was with him, so he asked him about what she said. He said: 'O Messenger of God, as for her saying that he beats me when I pray, she recites with my two surahs and I have forbidden her from that.' He said: 'If it were a single surah it would suffice the people.' He said: 'As for her saying that he makes me break my fast when I fast, she goes off and fasts while I am a young man, and I cannot restrain myself.' The Messenger of God ﷺ said that day: 'A woman should not fast except with her husband's permission.' 'As for her saying that I do not pray until the sun rises, we are a household known for that; we hardly wake up until the sun rises.' He said: 'So when you wake up, pray.'
