Musnad Abi Ya'la 1080

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the mosque and noticed phlegm in the direction of the qiblah. He removed it with a stick he had with him, or a reed, then turned to the people, who recognized anger in his face, and said: "Who did this?" The people remained silent. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Would any of you like, when he stands in his prayer place, a man to face him and spit in his face?" They said: "O Messenger of Allah, we would not like that." He said: "Indeed Allah is before you, so let none of you face anything harmful in front of him, but rather to his left or under his foot."
