حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ وَسُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْعَتَكِيُّ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ أَبِي فَزَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي زَيْدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لَهُ لَيْلَةَ الْجِنِّ مَا فِي إِدَاوَتِكَ قَالَ نَبِيذٌ قَالَ تَمْرَةٌ طَيِّبَةٌ وَمَاءٌ طَهُورٌ

AbuZayd quoted Abdullah ibn Mas'ud as saying that on the night when the jinn listened to the Qur'an the Prophet ﷺ said: What is in your skin vessel? He said: I have some nabidh. He (the Holy Prophet) said: It consists of fresh dates and pure water. Sulayman ibn Dawud reported the same version of this tradition on the authority of AbuZayd or Zayd. But Sharik said that Hammad did not mention the words "night of the jinn".

machine translationAbū Fazārah Rāshid b. Kaysān narrates it from him. It was narrated from Abū Fazārah by Sufyān al-Thawrī, Isrāʾīl, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Ḥumayd al-Ruwāsī (the father of Ḥumayd), Abū al-ʿUmays ʿUtbah b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿUtbah b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Masʿūd, Ismāʿīl b. Abī Khālid, ʿAmr b. Abī Qays, ʿAbd al-Malik b. Abī Sulaymān, Sharīk, Qays, ʿAlī b. ʿĀbis, Abū Wakīʿ, Layth b. Abī Sulaym, Ṣabāḥ b. Yaḥyā, Mukram and ʿAnbasah b. Saʿīd. They differed about it. Abū al-ʿUmays said: from Abū Fazārah, from Abū Zayd, the freed slave of ʿAmr b. Ḥurayth. ʿAbd al-Malik b. Abī Sulaymān said: from Abū Fazārah, from ʿAbd Allāh b. Yazīd b. al-Aṣamm, from Ibn Masʿūd. It was also said: from ʿAbd al-Malik, from Abū Fazārah, from Abū Ḥarāzah, from Ibn Masʿūd. Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Shaqarī said: from Sharīk, from Abū Zāʾidah, from Ibn Masʿūd. Al-Masʿūdī narrated it from Abū Fazārah and said: from ʿAmr b. Ḥurayth, from the Prophet ﷺ. The correct view is the view of al-Thawrī and those who followed him.
