✧ The Prophet's ﷺ Night Prayer and His Witr

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ:
نِمْتُ عِنْدَ خَالَتِي مَيْمُونَةَ بِنْتِ الْحَارِثِ فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ، فَأَتَى الْحَاجَةَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ وَيَدَيْهِ، ثُمَّ نَامَ، ثُمَّ قَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَأَتَى الْقِرْبَةَ فَأَطْلَقَ شِنَاقَهَا، فَتَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءًا بَيْنَ الْوُضُوءَيْنِ، لَمْ يُكْثِرْ وَقَدْ أَبْلَغَ، ثُمَّ قَامَ يُصَلِّي فَتَمَطَّيْتُ كَرَاهِيَةَ أَنْ يَرَى أَنِّي كُنْتُ أَبْغِيهِ يَعْنِي أُرَاقِبُهُ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ قُمْتُ فَفَعَلْتُ كَمَا فَعَلَ، فَقُمْتُ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ، فَأَخَذَ بِمَا يَلِي أُذُنِي حَتَّى أَدَارَنِي فَكُنْتُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ، فَتَتَامَّتْ صَلَاتُهُ إِلَى ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً مِنْهَا رَكْعَتَا الصُّبْحِ، ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ فَنَامَ حَتَّى نَفَخَ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ بِلَالٌ فَآذَنَهُ بِالصَّلَاةِ، فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ
Translation
✧ I slept at my maternal aunt Maymunah bint al-Harith's. The Prophet ﷺ got up during the night, went to relieve himself, then came and washed his face and hands, then slept. Then he got up during the night, went to the water skin, untied its strap, and performed a moderate ablution, not excessive but complete. Then he got up to pray. I stretched out, disliking that he should see that I was seeking him out, meaning watching him. He said: Then I got up and did as he did, then I stood on his left. He took hold of what was near my ear and turned me until I was on his right. His prayer was completed as thirteen rak'ahs, including the two rak'ahs of dawn. Then he lay down and slept until he snored. Then Bilal came and called him to prayer, so he got up and prayed without performing ablution.
