✧ One Who Forgot the Prayer of Residence, and Combining Two Prayers While Traveling

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ أَبِي رَوَّادٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ عُمَرَ،
أَنَّ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ امْرَأَتَهُ تَمُوتُ قَالَ: سَارَ حَتَّى أَظْلَمْنَا وَظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ قَدْ نَسِيَ قَالَ: فَجَعَلْنَا نَقُولُ: الصَّلَاةَ، وَهُوَ لَا يُجِيبُنَا، حَتَّى ذَهَبَ نَحْوٌ مِنْ رُبُعِ اللَّيْلِ، قَدْرَ مَا يَسِيرُ الْمُثْقَلُونَ مِنْ عَرَفَةَ إِلَى مُزْدَلِفَةَ، ثُمَّ نَزَلَ فَصَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ، ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا فَقَالَ: " إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا عَجِلَهُ الْمَسِيرُ أَوْ أَزْمَعَ بِهِ الْمَسِيرُ جَمَعَ بَيْنَ هَاتَيْنِ الصَّلَاتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْعِشَاءَ
Translation
✧ That Safiyya bt. Abi 'Ubayd, his wife, was dying. He said: He traveled until it became dark, and we thought that he had forgotten. He said: We kept saying: 'The prayer,' and he did not answer us, until about a quarter of the night had passed, about the time it takes heavily laden travelers to go from 'Arafa to Muzdalifa. Then he dismounted and prayed the sunset prayer, then turned to us and said: 'The Messenger of God ﷺ, when travel urged him on or he resolved to travel, would combine these two prayers.' Then he prayed the night prayer.
