✧ The Imam's Screen Is a Screen for Those Behind Him

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ هِلَالٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ قَالَ:
صَلَّى الْحَكَمُ الْغِفَارِيُّ بِالنَّاسِ فِي سَفَرٍ، وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ عَنَزَةٌ، فَمَرَّتْ حَمِيرٌ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ أَصْحَابِهِ، فَأَعَادَ بِهِمُ الصَّلَاةَ فَقَالُوا: أَرَادَ أَنْ يَصْنَعَ كَمَا يَصْنَعُ الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ، إِذَا صَلَّى بِأَصْحَابِهِ الْغَدَاةَ أَرْبَعًا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: " أَزِيدُكُمْ " قَالَ: فَلَحِقْتُ الْحَكَمَ، فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ، فَوَقَفَ حَتَّى تَلَاحَقَ الْقَوْمُ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي أَعَدْتُ بِكُمُ الصَّلَاةَ مِنْ أَجْلِ الْحُمُرِ الَّتِي مَرَّتْ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيكُمْ، فَضَرَبْتُمُونِي مَثَلًا لِابْنِ أَبِي مُعَيْطٍ، وَإِنِّي أَسْأَلُ اللهَ أَنْ يُحْسِنَ تَسْيِيرَكُمْ، وَأَنْ يُحْسِنَ بَلَاغَكُمْ، وَأَنْ يَنْصُرَكُمْ عَلَى عَدُوِّكُمْ، وَأَنْ يُفَرِّقَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكُمْ " قَالَ: فَمَضَوْا فَلَمْ يَرَوْا فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ ذَلِكَ إِلَّا مَا يُسَرُّونَ بِهِ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغُوا مَاتَ
Translation
✧ Al-Hakam al-Ghifari led the people in prayer on a journey, with a spear in front of him, and donkeys passed in front of his companions. He repeated the prayer with them. They said: He wanted to do as al-Walid b. Uqba did when he prayed four rak'ahs with his companions in the morning, then said: "Shall I add more for you?" He said: I caught up with al-Hakam and mentioned that to him. He stopped until the people caught up, then said: I repeated the prayer with you because of the donkeys that passed in front of you, and you compared me to Ibn Abi Mu'ayt. I ask God to make your journey good, to make your delivery good, to grant you victory over your enemy, and to separate me from you. He said: They went on and did not see anything on their faces except what pleased them, and when they finished, he died.
