✧ What Expiates the Ablution and the Prayer

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ قَالَ:
كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي سَفْرَةٍ، وَنَحْنُ نَتَنَاوَبُ رِعْيَةَ الْإِبِلِ، فَجِئْتُ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ وَالنَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَخْطُبُ وَقَدْ سَبَقَنِي بَعْضُ قَوْلِهِ، فَجَلَسْتُ إِلَى جَنْبِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، فَسَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ: مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ فَأَسْبَغَ الْوُضُوءَ، ثُمَّ قَامَ يُصَلِّي فَصَلَّى صَلَاةً يَعْلَمُ مَا يَقُولُ فِيهَا حَتَّى يَفْرُغَ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ كَانَ كَهَيْئَتِهِ يَوْمَ وَلَدَتْهُ أُمُّهُ. فَقَالَ: قُلْتُ: بَخٍ بَخٍ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ: قَدْ قَالَ: انْجُو آنِفًا أَجْوَدَ مِنْ هَذَا، قَالَ: مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ فَأَسْبَغَ الْوُضُوءَ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّى صَلَاةً يَعْلَمُ مَا يَقُولُ فِيهَا، حَتَّى فَرَغَ مِنْ صَلَاتِهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ، فُتِحَتْ لَهُ ثَمَانِيَةُ أَبْوَابٍ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ يَدْخُلُ مِنْ أَيِّهَا شَاءَ
Translation
✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, and we took turns tending the camels. One day I came while the Prophet ﷺ was delivering a sermon, and part of his speech had preceded me, so I sat down next to Umar b. al-Khattab. I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: Whoever performs ablution and perfects it, then stands to pray and prays a prayer knowing what he says in it until he finishes his prayer, will be as he was on the day his mother gave birth to him. He said: I said: Excellent, excellent. Umar b. al-Khattab said: He has just said something even better than this. He said: Whoever performs ablution and perfects it, then stands and prays a prayer knowing what he says in it, until he finishes his prayer, then says: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him and he may enter through whichever of them he wishes.
