What Has Been Related About What It Is Recommended To Break The Fast With

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ

مَنْ وَجَدَ تَمْرًا فَلْيُفْطِرْ عَلَيْهِ وَمَنْ لاَ فَلْيُفْطِرْ عَلَى مَاءٍ فَإِنَّ الْمَاءَ طَهُورٌ

the Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever has dried dates, then let him break the fast with that, and whoever does not, then let him break the fast with water, for indeed water is purifying."

    machine translationHe said: On this topic there is also a narration from Salmān b. ʿĀmir. Abū ʿĪsā said: As for the hadith of Anas, we do not know anyone who narrated it from Shuʿbah like this other than Saʿīd b. ʿĀmir, and it is an unpreserved hadith (ghayr maḥfūẓ). We do not know of any basis for it from the hadith of ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Ṣuhayb from Anas. The companions of Shuʿbah narrated this hadith from Shuʿbah, from ʿĀṣim al-Aḥwal, from Ḥafṣah bint Sīrīn, from al-Rabāb, from Salmān b. ʿĀmir, from the Prophet ﷺ, and this is more authentic (aṣaḥḥ) than the hadith of Saʿīd b. ʿĀmir. Likewise they narrated from Shuʿbah, from ʿĀṣim, from Ḥafṣah bint Sīrīn, from Salmān, and Shuʿbah did not mention in it "from al-Rabāb". The sound (ṣaḥīḥ) version is what Sufyān al-Thawrī, Ibn ʿUyaynah and more than one other narrated from ʿĀṣim al-Aḥwal, from Ḥafṣah bint Sīrīn, from al-Rabāb, from Salmān b. ʿĀmir. Ibn ʿAwn says: from Umm al-Rāʾiḥ bint Ṣulayʿ, from Salmān b. ʿĀmir. And al-Rabāb is Umm al-Rāʾiḥ.
