machine translationHe said: On this topic there are narrations from ʿĀʾishah, Ibn ʿUmar and ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr. Abū ʿĪsā said: The ḥadīth of Kathīr's grandfather is a good (ḥasan) ḥadīth, and it is the best thing narrated on this topic from the Prophet, peace be upon him. His name is ʿAmr b. ʿAwf al-Muzanī. Some of the people of knowledge among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ and others act upon this. It is likewise narrated from Abū Hurayrah that he prayed a prayer like this in Medina, and it is the view of the people of Medina. Mālik b. Anas, al-Shāfiʿī, Aḥmad and Isḥāq hold this view. It is narrated from ʿAbdullāh b. Masʿūd that he said concerning the takbīrs in the two Eids: nine takbīrs in the first rakʿah, five before the recitation, and in the second rakʿah he begins with the recitation and then says four takbīrs, including the takbīr of bowing. The like of this has also been narrated from more than one of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, and it is the view of the people of Kufa. Sufyān al-Thawrī holds this view.

قول الترمذي إن هذا الحديث أحسن شيء في هذا الباب ليس كذلك بل هو أقبح حديث في ذلك الباب لأن كثير بن عبد الله المذكور لا تحل الرواية عنه بتخريج الأئمة له

machine translationAl-Tirmidhī's statement that this ḥadīth is the best thing on this topic is not so; rather it is the worst ḥadīth on that topic, because Kathīr b. ʿAbdullāh mentioned is one from whom narration is not permissible, given the imams' criticism of him.
