Translation

from Anas bin Malik that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The rewards for my Ummah were displayed before me, even (the reward for) the dust that a man comes out of the Masjid with. The sins of my Ummah were displayed before me, and I have not seen a sin worse than a Surah or Ayah of the Qur'an which a man learned and then forgot."

• ✧ Abu ʿIsa said: “This is a rare hadith, and we know it only through this chain.” He said: “I mentioned it to Muhammad ibn Ismaʿil, but he did not recognize it and regarded it as unusual. Muhammad said: ‘I do not know of al-Muttalib ibn ʿAbdullah ibn Hantab having heard from any of the Prophet’s Companions (peace and blessings be upon him), except for his statement: “Someone who witnessed the Prophet’s sermon narrated to me.”’” He said: “I heard ʿAbdullah ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman say: ‘We do not know of al-Muttalib having heard from any of the Prophet’s Companions (peace and blessings be upon him).’ ʿAbdullah said: ‘ʿAli ibn al-Madini rejected the claim that al-Muttalib had heard from Anas.’”

• قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ لاَ نَعْرِفُهُ إِلاَّ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ قَالَ وَذَاكَرْتُ بِهِ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ إِسْمَاعِيلَ فَلَمْ يَعْرِفْهُ وَاسْتَغْرَبَهُ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ وَلاَ أَعْرِفُ لِلْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ حَنْطَبٍ سَمَاعًا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِلاَّ قَوْلَهُ حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ شَهِدَ خُطْبَةَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ وَسَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ يَقُولُ لاَ نَعْرِفُ لِلْمُطَّلِبِ سَمَاعًا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَأَنْكَرَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ أَنْ يَكُونَ الْمُطَّلِبُ سَمِعَ مِنْ أَنَسٍ
