What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • al-Tirmidhi

machine translationStrange (gharīb), and its chain is not connected (muttaṣil).

    in جامع الترمذي, p. 174
  • Mubarakpūri

machine translationThe phrase of al-Tirmidhī, I mean "gharīb, and its chain is not connected", is not in the printed and manuscript copies we have.

    in جامع الترمذي, p. 174
  • al-Tirmidhi

machine translationGharīb, and I do not see its chain as connected.

    in جامع الترمذي, p. 174
  • Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationThere is much disagreement and inconsistency (iḍṭirāb) in this ḥadīth, and the correct view is the view of the one who said: from al-Qāsim, from his grandmother Umm al-Dunyā, from Umm Farwah.

    in جامع الترمذي, p. 174
  • Ibn Daqīq al-ʿĪd

machine translationThe inconsistency in it, in establishing the intermediary between al-Qāsim and Umm Farwah or omitting it, goes back to al-ʿUmarī, who has been graded weak (ḍaʿīf). The one who established the intermediary takes precedence over the one who omitted it, and that intermediary is unknown (majhūl).

    in جامع الترمذي, p. 174

machine translationIts narrators are trustworthy (thiqāt), and it appears that its chain is connected.

    in جامع الترمذي, p. 174
  • Abū ʿAbdullāh al-Ḥākim

machine translationThe chain is authentic (ṣaḥīḥ), though the two of them (al-Bukhārī and Muslim) did not record it.

    in جامع الترمذي, p. 174
  • al-Tirmidhi

    machine translationGood (ḥasan), gharīb.
