machine translationAbū ʿĪsā said: The hadith of al-Nuʿmān has inconsistency (iḍṭirāb) in its chain of transmission. He said: I heard Muḥammad [al-Bukhārī] say: Qatādah did not hear this hadith from Ḥabīb b. Sālim; he only narrated it from Khālid b. ʿUrfuṭah. It is also reported from Qatādah that he said: Ḥabīb b. Sālim wrote it to me. And Abū Bishr did not hear this from Ḥabīb b. Sālim either; he only narrated it from Khālid b. ʿUrfuṭah. Abū ʿĪsā said: The people of knowledge differed about a man who has intercourse with his wife's slave girl. It is reported from more than one of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, among them ʿAlī and Ibn ʿUmar, that he is to be stoned. Ibn Masʿūd said: There is no prescribed punishment (ḥadd) on him, but he is disciplined (yuʿazzar). Aḥmad and Isḥāq took the view of what al-Nuʿmān b. Bashīr narrated from the Prophet ﷺ.
