حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ بُدَيْلٍ الْخُزَاعِيُّ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ اللَّيْثِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ

قَالَ: الْوِتْرُ حَقٌّ أَوْ وَاجِبٌ، مَنْ شَاءَ أَوْتَرَ بِسَبْعٍ، وَمَنْ شَاءَ أَوْتَرَ بِخَمْسٍ، وَمَنْ شَاءَ أَوْتَرَ بِثَلَاثٍ، وَمَنْ شَاءَ أَوْتَرَ بِوَاحِدَةٍ، فَمَنْ غُلِبَ فَلْيُومِئْ إِيمَاءً

Translation

✧ He said: "Witr is a duty or an obligation. Whoever wishes may perform witr with seven, and whoever wishes may perform witr with five, and whoever wishes may perform witr with three, and whoever wishes may perform witr with one. Whoever is overcome, let him gesture."
