machine translationThis is how a number of Sharīk's students narrated it, and they did not raise it to the Prophet (marfūʿ). The sound report from Abū Dharr, through the narration of Sharīk, is stopped at the Companion (mawqūf). My father said: Abū Bakr b. ʿAyyāsh narrated it from al-Aʿmash and raised it to the Prophet (marfūʿ), but the hadith itself is stopped at the Companion (mawqūf), and that is more sound (aṣaḥḥ).

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationThe stopped (mawqūf) version is the closer of the two to being correct.
