حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضِرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ قَالَ: نَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ: نَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْيَمَامِيُّ قَالَ: نَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:
مَنْ بَنَى لِلهِ بَيْتًا - يُعْبَدُ اللهُ فِيهِ، مِنْ مَالٍ حَلَالٍ - بَنَى اللهُ لَهُ بَيْتًا فِي الْجَنَّةِ مِنْ دُرٍّ وَيَاقُوتٍ

I say: He did not give a full answer and did not explain the defect (ʿillah) of the hadith beyond what he mentioned. In my view, the correct version is what Abān al-ʿAṭṭār narrated from Yaḥyā b. Abī Kathīr, from Maḥmūd b. ʿAmr, from Asmāʾ bint Yazīd b. al-Sakan, from the Prophet ﷺ; and from Yaḥyā, from Maḥmūd b. ʿAmr, from Abū Hurayrah, as a statement of the Companion (mawqūf). And I heard my father say: He is Maḥmūd b. ʿAmr b. Yazīd b. al-Sakan.
