حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ، قَالَ:

خَطَبَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ بِالْجَابِيَةِ، فَقَالَ: قَامَ فِينَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَقَامِي فِيكُمْ، فَقَالَ: أَكْرِمُوا أَصْحَابِي، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ، ثُمَّ يَفْشُو الْكَذِبُ حَتَّى يَحْلِفَ الرَّجُلُ وَلَمْ يُسْتَحْلَفْ، وَيَشْهَدَ وَلَمْ يُسْتَشْهَدْ، فَمَنْ أَرَادَ بُحْبُوحَةَ الْجَنَّةِ فَلْيَلْزَمِ الْجَمَاعَةَ ; فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ مَعَ الْوَاحِدِ، وَهُوَ مِنَ الِاثْنَيْنِ أَبْعَدُ، وَلَا يَخْلُوَنَّ رَجُلٌ بِامْرَأَةٍ ; فَإِنَّ ثَالِثُهُمَا الشَّيْطَانَ، وَمَنْ سَرَّتْهُ حَسَنَتُهُ وَسَاءَتْهُ سَيِّئَتُهُ فَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ

✧ ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb ؓ addressed us at al-Jābiya and said: The Messenger of God ﷺ stood among us as I stand among you and said: Honor my Companions, then those who follow them, then those who follow them. Then lying will spread until a man swears without being asked to swear, and bears witness without being asked to bear witness. Whoever wants the midst of Paradise should keep to the community, for Satan is with the solitary person and is farther from two. Let no man be alone with a woman, for the third of them is Satan. Whoever is pleased by his good deed and grieved by his evil deed is a believer.
