Chain of narrators
  1. Jarīr
  2. ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿUmayr
  3. Jābir b. Samurah Qālakhaṭab ʿUmar al-Nās Bi-al-Jābiyah

Umar addressed the people in al-Jabiyah, and said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood as I am standing and said: ʿTreat my Companions kindly, then those who come after them, then those who come after them. Then there will come people who will swear oaths before being asked to swear and will give testimony before being asked to give testimony. Whoever among you would like to attain the best place in Paradise, let him adhere to the jama'ah (the main body of Muslims), for the Shaitan is with one and he is further away from two. No man should be alone with a woman because the Shaitan will be the third one present. Whoever feels pleased when he does a good deed and feels bad when he does an evil deed is a believer.”

machine translationʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿUmayr narrated it, and there is disagreement about him regarding its chain, so several different versions were reported from him. Jarīr b. Ḥāzim, Muḥammad b. Shabīb al-Zahrānī, Qurrah b. Khālid and Jarīr b. ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd narrated it, and it was also said from Shuʿbah b. al-Ḥajjāj, and they said: from ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿUmayr, from Jābir b. Samurah, from ʿUmar. A group of trustworthy narrators (thiqāt) differed from them, among them ʿAbdullāh b. al-Mukhtār, Yūnus b. Abī Isḥāq and his son Isrāʾīl, Maʿmar, ʿAbd al-Ḥakīm b. Manṣūr, Ḥabbān and Mindal the two sons of ʿAlī, and Sufyān al-Thawrī, and it was also said from Shuʿbah; and al-Masʿūdī, Dāwūd b. al-Zibriqān, al-Ḥusayn b. Wāqid, and al-Ḥuṣayn b. Wāqid, a shaykh from whom Abū Bakr b. ʿAyyāsh narrated, and Qazaʿah b. Suwayd and Abū ʿAwānah. They narrated it from ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿUmayr, from ʿAbdullāh b. al-Zubayr, from ʿUmar. Shaybān b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, Shuʿayb b. Ṣafwān, Zāʾidah and ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿUmar al-Raqqī narrated it from ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿUmayr, from an unnamed man, from ʿAbdullāh b. al-Zubayr. ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd b. Mūsā said, from ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAmr, from ʿAbd al-Malik, from Mujāhid, from Ibn al-Zubayr, from ʿUmar, and he accomplished nothing. ʿImrān, the brother of Sufyān b. ʿUyaynah, said: from ʿAbd al-Malik, from Ribʿī b. Ḥirāsh, from ʿUmar. Yaḥyā b. Yaʿlā Abū al-Muḥayyāh, Zuhayr and Muḥammad b. Thābit said: from ʿAbd al-Malik, from Qabīṣah b. Jābir, from ʿUmar. Ḥammād b. Salamah, al-Masʿūdī and Qays, in the narration of Muḥammad b. Muṣʿab from them, said: from ʿAbd al-Malik, from Rajāʾ b. Ḥaywah, from ʿUmar. Ibn ʿUyaynah said: from ʿAbd al-Malik, from an unnamed man, from ʿUmar. It seems that the inconsistency (iḍṭirāb) in this chain comes from ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿUmayr, because of the many disagreements of the trustworthy narrators from him regarding the chain.
