✧ Zayd b. 'Amr and Waraqah b. Nawfal went out seeking the religion until they came to a monk in Mosul. He said to Zayd b. 'Amr: "From where have you come, O owner of the camel?" He said: "From the house of Ibrahim." He said: "And what do you seek?" He said: "I seek the religion." He said: "Return, for it is about to appear that which you seek in your land." As for Waraqah, he became a Christian. Zayd said: "As for me, Christianity was offered to me, but it did not suit me." So he returned, saying: "Labbayk, truly, truly, in worship and servitude. I seek righteousness, not the transient. Is one who emigrates like one who merely says, 'I believe in what Ibrahim believed'?" And he said: "I reject for You, O Allah, a humiliated, submissive one. Whatever You burden me with, I will bear." Then he fell down and prostrated. He said: His son came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah, my father was as you have seen and as has reached you, so ask forgiveness for him." He said: "Yes, for on the Day of Resurrection he will be a nation alone." He said: Zayd b. 'Amr b. Nufayl came upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and with him was Zayd b. Harithah, while the two of them were eating from a travel provision of theirs. They invited him to their food, but Zayd b. 'Amr said to the Prophet ﷺ: "O son of my brother, we do not eat from what is slaughtered on stone altars."
