حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ سَالِمَ بْنَ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ، قَالَ:

قِيلَ لِثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ: حَدِّثْنَا. قَالَ: كَذَبْتُمْ عَلَيَّ وَقُلْتُمْ عَلَيَّ مَا لَمْ أَقُلْ، فَقَالُوا: حَدِّثْنَا. فَقَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ يَسْجُدُ لِلهِ سَجْدَةً إِلَّا رَفَعَهُ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِهَا دَرَجَةً أَوْ حَطَّ عَنْهُ بِهَا خَطِيئَةً

Translation

✧ It was said to Thawban, the freedman of the Messenger of God ﷺ: “Narrate to us.” He said: “You have lied against me and said about me what I did not say.” They said: “Narrate to us.” He said: “I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: ‘No servant prostrates to God a prostration but that God, Mighty and Majestic, raises him a degree by it or removes from him a sin by it.’”
