✧ I met Thawbān, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and said to him: “Narrate to me a ḥadīth that perhaps Allah will benefit me by.” He said: “You must prostrate, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘There is no servant who prostrates to Allah a single prostration except that Allah raises him a degree by it and removes from him a sin by it.’”

  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

machine translationThis is a hadith whose chain is disputed. If it is authentic (ṣaḥīḥ), it is taken to refer to intentional vomiting, and it is as if he ﷺ was fasting a voluntary fast. And he said in another place: "Its chain is inconsistent (muḍṭarib), and no proof can be established by it."
