حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ مُرَّةَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيِّبِ، قَالَ:
اجْتَمَعَ عَلِيٌّ وَعُثْمَانُ ؓ بِعُسْفَانَ، وَكَانَ عُثْمَانُ يَنْهَى عَنِ الْمُتْعَةِ، فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ: " مَا تُرِيدُ إِلَى أَمْرٍ فَعَلَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ تَنْهَى عَنْهُ ؟ " فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ: دَعْنَا مِنْكَ، قَالَ: إِنِّي لَا أَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ أَدَعَكَ مِنِّي " فَلَمَّا رَأَى ذَلِكَ أَهَلَّ بِهِمَا جَمِيعًا
Translation

✧ 'Ali and 'Uthman ؓ met at 'Usfan. 'Uthman was forbidding mut'ah, so 'Ali said, 'What do you want with something the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did—you forbid it?' 'Uthman said, 'Leave us alone.' 'Ali said, 'I cannot leave you alone.' When 'Uthman saw that, he entered ihram for both together.
