حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ رُفَيْعٍ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ
أَرْسَلَ عُثْمَانُ إِلَى أَبِي يَسْأَلُهُ عَنْهَا فَقَالَ أَبِي «كَيْفَ يُفْتِي مُنَافِقٌ؟» فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ نُعِيذُكَ بِاللهِ أَنْ تَكُونَ مُنَافِقًا وَنَعُوذُ بِاللهِ أَنْ نُسَمِّيَكَ مُنَافِقًا وَنُعِيذُكَ بِاللهِ أَنْ يَكُونَ مِثْلُ هَذَا فِي الْإِسْلَامِ ثُمَّ يَمُوتُ وَلَمْ يُبَيِّنْهُ قَالَ «فَإِنِّي أَرَى أَنَّهُ أَحَقُّ بِهَا حَتَّى تَغْتَسِلَ مِنَ الْحَيْضَةِ الثَّالِثَةِ وَتَحِلُّ لَهَا الصَّلَاةُ» قَالَ فَلَا أَعْلَمُ عُثْمَانَ إِلَّا أَخَذَ ذَلِكَ

✧ Uthman sent to my father asking him about her. My father said: “How can a hypocrite give a fatwa?” Uthman said: “We seek refuge in Allah from your being a hypocrite, and we seek refuge in Allah from calling you a hypocrite. We seek refuge in Allah that such a thing should exist in Islam, then he should die without clarifying it.” He said: “I think he has more right to her until she performs ghusl after the third menses and prayer becomes lawful for her.” I do not know but that Uthman adopted that.
