حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ
«لَنْ يَزَالَ النَّاسُ بِخَيْرٍ مَا أَتَاهُمُ الْعِلْمُ مِنْ قِبَلِ أَكَابِرِهِمْ وَذَوِي أَسْلَافِهِمْ فَإِذَا أَتَاهُمْ مِنْ قِبَلِ أَصَاغِرِهِمْ هَلَكُوا» هَكَذَا رَوَاهُ شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ وَتَابَعَهُ زَيْدُ بْنُ حِبَّانَ

✧ People will remain in good as long as knowledge comes to them from their elders and those of their predecessors. When it comes to them from their young ones, they perish. This is how Shu'bah narrated it from Abu Ishaq, from Zayd b. Wahb, and Zayd b. Hibban concurred with him.
