✧ He used to come every Thursday and stand, not sitting, and say: Do not put the people to trial, for among them are the weak, the elderly, and the one with a need. He would say: They are two: the best guidance is the guidance of Muḥammad, the most truthful speech is the Book of Allah, and the worst of affairs are their newly invented ones. Every newly invented matter is misguidance. The wretched is the one who was wretched in his mother's womb, and the fortunate is the one who is admonished by others. Indeed, let not the time span grow long for you, nor let hope divert you, for all that is coming is near, and only what is not coming is far. Among the worst of people is the one who prolongs the day out of fear of the night. Killing a believer is disbelief and insulting him is wickedness. It is not lawful for a Muslim to abandon his brother for more than three days. Indeed, the worst of mounts is falsehood. Lying is not proper in seriousness or jest, nor for a man to promise his child something and not fulfill it. Indeed, lying leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Fire; and truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. It will be said of the truthful one: he spoke truth and was righteous; and it will be said of the liar: he lied and acted wickedly.
