حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ يُوسُفُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ

لَمَّا هَزَمَ اللهُ الْمُشْرِكِينَ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ مَرَرْتُ فَإِذَا أَبُو جَهْلٍ صَرِيعٌ قَدْ ضُرِبَتْ رِجْلُهُ فَقُلْتُ يَا عَدُوَّ اللهِ يَا أَبَا جَهْلٍ قَدْ أَخْزَى اللهُ الْآخَرَ قَالَ وَلَا أَهَابُهُ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ قَالَ أَبْعِدْ عَنْ رَجُلٍ قَتَلَهُ قَوْمُهُ فَضَرَبْتُهُ بِسَيْفٍ لِي غَيْرِ طَائِلٍ فَلَمْ يُغْنِ عَنِّي شَيْئًا حَتَّى سَقَطَ سَيْفُهُ مِنْ يَدِهِ فَأَخَذْتُهُ فَضَرَبْتُهُ حَتَّى بَرُدَ ثُمَّ جِئْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أشْتَدُّ لِأَنْ آتِي أَسْرَعَ خَلْقِ اللهِ شَدًّا حَتَّى جِئْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ قَدْ قَتَلَ اللهُ أَبَا جَهْلٍ قَالَ «اللهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ؟» فَقُلْتُ اللهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ لَقَدْ قَتَلْتُهُ قَالَ «كَيْفَ؟» فَقَصَصْتُ عَلَيْهِ كَيْفَ كَانَ الْحَدِيثُ وَكَيْفَ وَجَدْتُهُ قَالَ «اللهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ؟» قَالَ قُلْتُ اللهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ لَقَدْ قَتَلْتُهُ فَكَبَّرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ «الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي صَدَقَ وَعْدَهُ وَنَصَرَ عَبْدَهُ» ثُمَّ انْطَلَقَ حَتَّى آتَاهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ «هَذَا فِرْعَوْنُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ»

✧ When God defeated the polytheists on the day of Badr, I passed by and saw Abu Jahl thrown down with his leg struck. I said, “O enemy of God, O Abu Jahl, God has disgraced the other.” He said, and I did not fear him at that time, “Get away from a man whom his own people have killed.” So I struck him with a useless sword of mine, but it availed me nothing until his sword fell from his hand. I took it and struck him until he became cold. Then I came running to the Messenger of God ﷺ, hurrying faster than any creature of God, until I reached him and said, “O Messenger of God, God has killed Abu Jahl.” He said, “By the God besides whom there is no deity?” I said, “By the God besides whom there is no deity, I killed him.” He said, “How?” So I told him how the story went and how I found him. He said, “By the God besides whom there is no deity?” I said, “By the God besides whom there is no deity, I killed him.” He said “Allahu Akbar,” then said, “Praise be to God who fulfilled His promise and aided His servant.” Then he set out until he came to him and said, “This is the Pharaoh of this community.”
