حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا يَحْيَى الْحِمَّانِيُّ ثنا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ

أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ فَقُلْتُ إِنِّي قَدْ قَتَلْتُ أَبَا جَهْلٍ قَالَ «اللهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ لَأَنْتَ قَتَلْتَهُ؟» قُلْتُ اللهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ لَأَنَا قَتَلْتُهُ فَاسْتَخَفَّهُ الْفَرَحُ فَقَالَ «مُرَّ أَرِنِيهِ» فَانْطَلَقْتُ بِهِ حَتَّى وَقَفْتُ بِهِ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ فَقَالَ «الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَخْزَاكَ هَذَا فِرْعَوْنُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ جُرُّوهُ إِلَى الْقَلِيبِ» قَالَ وَقَدْ كُنْتُ ضَرَبْتُهُ بِسَيْفِي فَلَمْ يَحُكَّ فِيهِ فَأَخَذْتُ سَيْفَهُ فَضَرَبْتُهُ بِهِ حَتَّى قَتَلْتُهُ فَنَفَّلَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ سَيْفَهُ

✧ I came to the Prophet ﷺ on the day of Badr and said, “I have killed Abu Jahl.” He said, “By the God besides whom there is no deity, did you kill him?” I said, “By the God besides whom there is no deity, I killed him.” Joy overwhelmed him, and he said, “Show me him.” So I went with him until I stood with him at his head, and he said, “Praise be to God who has disgraced you. This is the Pharaoh of this community. Drag him to the well.” He said: I had struck him with my sword but it did not cut him, so I took his sword and struck him with it until I killed him. The Messenger of God ﷺ gave me his sword as booty.
