- a man from Azid Shanūʾah
✧ It is said to him: Dimam. He was in Yemen, and he used to treat people possessed by spirits. He came to Makkah and heard them saying about Muhammad ﷺ: a sorcerer, a soothsayer, and a madman. So he said: "If I go to this man, perhaps Allah will heal him through my hands." He met him and said: "O Muhammad, Allah heals through my hands, and I treat these spirits." He said: "Praise be to Allah, we praise Him and seek His help. Whomever Allah guides, none can mislead, and whomever He misleads, none can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger." He said: "Repeat it to me." He repeated it to him three times. He said: "I have heard the speech of soothsayers, the speech of sorcerers, and the poets, and I have never heard anything like these words. It has reached the depth of the sea. Stretch out your hand, I pledge allegiance to you upon Islam." He stretched out his hand and pledged allegiance to him upon Islam and upon my people. So he pledged allegiance to him upon his people.
